Traveling to Serengeti by air is the fastest and most convenient option. From Arusha Airport, Kilimanjaro International Airport, or Dar es Salaam, visitors can take scheduled light aircraft flights operated by local airlines to one of the park’s airstrips, such as Seronera in central Serengeti, Kogatende in the north, or Grumeti in the west. These flights usually take about one to one and a half hours from Arusha and offer scenic views of the landscapes below. Flying is ideal for travelers with limited time or those seeking a more comfortable journey.
Reaching Serengeti by road is a longer but more immersive experience. The journey typically begins in Arusha and passes through Lake Manyara and the Ngorongoro Conservation Area before entering Serengeti National Park. The drive to central Serengeti takes approximately seven to nine hours, often spread over one or two days, with a mix of paved roads and rough dirt tracks. Although the road trip can be tiring, it allows travelers to enjoy varied scenery and include game drives in other famous wildlife areas along the way.
