The Marangu Route is unique because it’s the only Kilimanjaro trail offering hut accommodation instead of camping. Due to its popularity, huts often get fully booked during the peak season, so advance reservations are strongly advised. It’s also a favored choice for climbs during the rainy season.
The journey starts at Marangu Gate (1,800m), the Kilimanjaro National Park headquarters, and ascends through lush rainforest, heath and moorland, and alpine desert, before reaching the arctic zone at the summit. The trail leads to Gilman’s Point (5,700m) on the crater rim, and from there, climbers continue for about an hour to reach Uhuru Peak (5,895m) Africa’s highest point. The descent follows the same path back to Marangu Gate.
Upon arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport, you’ll be met and transferred to your hotel in Moshi town. The rest of the day is free to relax by the pool or explore Moshi’s charming streets.
In the evening, your mountain guide and operations team will meet you for a detailed pre-climb briefing and equipment check to ensure you’re fully prepared for the trek.
