Tour Overview

The Lemosho Route is one of the most beautiful and highly recommended trails on Mount Kilimanjaro. It offers low traffic, stunning scenery, and a high summit success rate making it a favorited for climbers seeking a balanced mix of challenge and reward.

Starting from the western side of Kilimanjaro at Londorossi Gate, the Lemosho Route passes through lush rainforest, heather moorlands, and across the Shira Plateau before joining the Machame Route near Shira 2 Camp. It then follows the southern circuit beneath Kilimanjaro’s spectacular ice fields before descending via Mweka Gate.

While it can be completed in 7 days, 8 days are recommended for better acclimatization and improved chances of reaching the summit.

Day by day Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival in Kilimanjaro

Arrive at Kilimanjaro International Airport, where our representative will meet you and transfer you to your hotel in Moshi town.
The rest of the day is free to relax by the pool or explore Moshi’s charming surroundings.
In the evening, your mountain guide and operations team will meet with you for a detailed pre-trek briefing and equipment check to ensure you’re fully prepared for the climb.

Day 2: Lemosho Glades (2,385m)-Big Tree Camp (2,780m)

Day 3: Big Tree Camp (2,780m)-Shira 2 Camp (3,900m)

Today’s trek covers open moorland as you climb across the Shira Plateau, passing through Shira 1 Camp on your way to Shira 2 Camp.
Enjoy panoramic views of Kibo Peak floating on the horizon and, on clear days, Mount Meru rising above the clouds.
This long day of hiking helps with acclimatization and rewards you with incredible landscapes.

Approx. Hiking Time: 9–11 hours

Day 4: Shira 2 Camp (3,900m)-Barranco Camp (3,960m)

The day begins with a gradual ascent into alpine desert terrain, passing beneath the Western Breach and reaching the striking Lava Tower (4,640m) — your high point of the day.
After lunch, descend to Barranco Camp, located in the sheltered base of the Great Barranco Valley. This “climb high, sleep low” approach is key to proper acclimatization.

Approx. Hiking Time: 7 hours
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner

Day 5: Barranco Camp (3,960m)-Karanga Camp (3,963m)

Continue beneath the Heim and Kersten glaciers and cross the Karanga Valley before arriving at Karanga Camp for the night.
For those feeling strong, an optional acclimatization hike to around 4,200m is available in the afternoon.

Approx. Hiking Time: 5 hours
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner

Day 6: Karanga Camp (3,963m)-Barafu Camp (4,640m)

After breakfast, continue ascending through the arid alpine desert, crossing rugged terrain with little vegetation.
Reach Barafu Camp, the final base before your summit attempt.
Spend the afternoon resting, hydrating, and preparing for your midnight ascent to the top of Africa.

After a short rest, continue for another hour to reach Uhuru Peak (5,895m), the highest point in Africa.
Celebrate your accomplishment before descending back to Barafu Camp for breakfast, then continue down to Millennium Camp for a well-earned rest.

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner
